Event and Historical Information:
The HMS ENTERPRISE was a Royal Naval gunboat built in 1864. The vessel was being towed by the tug LIVERPOOL, on its way from Liverpool to Plymouth for breaking in October 1889. The tug and gunboat were caught in a gale and the tug had to abandon to gunboat. The gunboat's crew were transferred to the tug and then the HMS ENTERPRISE was allowed to drift ashore to be wrecked at Aberffraw. On 15 August 1890, the Caernarfon and Denbigh Herald reported that an 'old gunboat has been beached at The Valley, and is to be broken up for old iron'.
