The outline of a wooden wreck (whose timbers are treenail fastened) was reported in the vicinity of this location by the Marine Rescue and Coastguard Centre at Swansea in 1998. The site is listed by the UKHO as a wooden wreck (UKHO 12561) on the basis of the same report.
The site was visited by the RCAHMW on the 19th April 2023 but no wreck was observed in the immediate location. Reference to other wrecks on the beach, visited at the same time indicates that sand levels were relatively high, so the wreck may have been buried.
A stray ship's timber, lying loose in the sand was observed c. 600m to the south south-east at 51.51628N, 3.75353W. This timber was probably a section of internal structure and measured 5.8m in length, 290mm wide, 70mm thick, and was fastened entirely with wooden treenails, some 30-35mm in diameter. The timber was recorded using photogrammetry and can be viewed here: https://skfb.ly/oGvw7
The Glamorgan Gwent Historic Environment Record also reports (PRN 08194m) a wooden wreck, carvel built and apparently without iron fastenings, in the same general area as the stray timber, that was visible in 2007.
