Description

A brass letter M, 8in high and weighing 2lbs, has been recovered and reported to the Receiver of Wreck.

Event and Historical Information:
The BALHOLM was a 152nt Norweigian motor ferry which was anchored 0.5miles west of Crow Rock after engine trouble on 24 February 1979. The deteriorating weather necessitated the crew being taken off as a safety precaution. The crew went back onboard on the next day in order to attempt a repair, returning to shore again afterwards. The following morning the vessel had disappeared and it was presumed to have sunk bearing 226 degrees, 3800ft from Linney Head. The lifeboat and lifejackets marked BALHOLM were picked up by a trawler NORRARD STAR on 6 February and another lifejacket from Lydstep beach. Divers confirmed the wreck's location in November 1998.
