Description
The present Cardiff Bridge was constructed in 1859, widened in 1877 and substantially rebuilt in 1930-1. It replaced a bridge of 1796, itself a replacement for a bridge washed away in 1792, which stood a short distance upstream but was washed away in 1827. The present bridge has four low elliptical arches with a balustraded parapet and carries the Cowbridge Road (formerly the A48 (nprn 412594)) over the River Taff, forming part of the main route to the west of Cardiff centre.
