It is known that the post-Conquest Forest of Snowden was actually established since a Royal Forester was appointed as were game wardens to protect game. But details of how it came into being are unknown. Its precise boundaries are uncertain though it was located mainly in Caernarfonshire, perhaps extending into Merionethshire.
The forest persisted as a legal entity until the seventeenth century, the forst laws being repealed in 1640.
