The quarry is cut into a west facing slope above Pontisticil village. The quarry is scoop-shaped. It is excavated into level ground and has a depth of 20m. It would appear that the quarry was formed to extract gravel. Disused quarry. Post-medieval Baltic quarry extended and mechanised at a later date. Various modern tracks on the site to extract the stone. B. Britton and G. Arnold, ArchaeoPhysica Ltd, 10/03/2009
There is a small ruinous masonry structure located on steeply sloping land below the disused quarry on the east side of the Taff Fechan valley at Pontsticill. It consists of a rectangular chamber measuring internally 1.6 by 2.1 m, with a barrel-vaulted roof, tarred externally. A small pipe hole passes through the vault. Presumably it is a boiler house or suchlike, associated with the adjacent quarry.
