Description
Bran Corn Mill lies a short distance to the east of Llangadog, to the west of Pont ar Fran. The former millpond lay immediately east of the mill and was supplied with water from a weir across the Afon Bran through a leat some 1.4km long which joined and ran with a tributary of the Bran, Nant Dyrfal, for some 30m. The mill was recorded as working, or at least in working condition, as recently as 1951. There was an overshot wheel, about 3m in diameter and 1.2m wide, driving two pairs of stones. A second wheel, of all iron construction, was installed in the early twentieth century in a shed nearby to provide power for electricity generation. Following a fire, the mill is now a roofless ruin devoid of any machinery; it has been converted into a Mediterranean-style enclosed patio, complete with first floor balcony, and two millstones have been incorporated in stone steps at one end. The miller's house lies adjacent to the north of the mill and has a range of outbuildings attached on its east side.
