Description
Carno is situated on a track south of an unclassified road (which forms part of the Taff Trail) running parallel to, and east of the A40 and Glyn Tarell. It is 2.5km south of Libanus and just to the west of the Afon Byddegai. It is a late 16th century Renaissance-type long-house derivative house with a kitchen, parlour and back-kitchen/dairy, and a central staircase. It is stone built, with a massive plinth of boulders. These footings may be the remains of a medieval house. The walls are rendered and possibly mortared. There remain the stubs of a former conjoined byre at the western end of the building, with draw bar holes visible. Jones and Smith claimed that there was a blocked door here also, though Parkinson did not see this. The house has chamfered beams with no stops.
