Description
Lodge and gateway to Gwenyfed Park. Built in 1879 and designed by W E Nesfield. The lodge is a busy confection. It is one and a half storeys, with ashlar walls and a tiled roof between raised coping, rising to pinnacles. A two-storey, flat-roofed, bay window protrudes from the roadside gable end and a two storey, timber-framed porch projects towards the driveway. There is a central ribbed brick stack.
The gate piers, of rusticated ashlar, are joined to the lodge by low walls topped by iron railings. Lion finials of stone amalgam were removed to Old Gwernfed in 1935 (see NPRN 25950).
