Description
Oxford House is a late eighteenth-early nineteenth century house. It was the property of an Earl of Oxford at the time of its purchase by the National Provincial Bank of England in 1867. It was one of the bank's earliest branches. Extensive alterations were undertaken in 1929, 1970 and 1987, including several extentions to the original fabric.
The present street front is dominated by a single storey, classical extension of 1929. The facade of the original house rises beyond, this was a two storey, three window front under a gabled roof.
OS County series 1st edition (Brecknock. XVII.12 1889) shows some details of the grounds and outbuildings. The entry to the carriage drive on the east side of the house has rubble stone walls and railings curved back to rusticated gate piers. 'The Stables' at the east end of the grounds may have been associated with the house.
