Description
WOLFS CASTLE COUNTRY HOTEL:
(G.H.14.ii 97)

Large house in centre of Wolf's Castle- adjoining
'tumulus'-(2nd ed.) O.S.-possible motte? [could be grewing platform]

'The house had some connections with SEALYHAM on whose estate it was built. The 'old road' from Haverfordwest crossed the river and wound up the hill passing the house to the west-north; the new A40 (since between the wars?) goes over a bridge and straight up the hill in a cutting which destroyed the western end of the walled gardens which, in any case, is very ruinous. (Sketch provided)

On the old road (which is still metalled) is a drinking fountain built in 1902 by the Edwardes who was then at Sealyhams (F - marked on plan). The river is at the bottom of the steep slope.'
(GH for WHGT)

This garden is depicted on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map of Pembrokeshire XVI, sheet 12 (1907). Its main elements on that map include walled garden, lawns, river and conservatory.
