Description
1. Extract from newscutting in NMR Welsh Country Homes XCII Hean Castle 16 ix 1911 from South Wales Daily News).
The gardens and park are among the chief delights of Hean Castle, and as you wander around beneath its majestic forest trees you wonder how it is in a situation so high and so near to the sea, and so exposed to southerly gales, that they flourish as they do. The flora of the more sheltered corners is almost sub-tropical, Plants such as Verbena, which in less congenial situations we are accustomed to see placed out in pots during the summer, here attain the height of small trees.

At the north-eastern side of the castle is an old walled garden, which belonged to the old house, but to meet modern requirements another garden of the same type has been made within the past few years. On its southeastern side the estate is bounded by the sea cliffs, and above these many pretty walks have been made leading to the most charming arbours commanding fascinating peeps along the coast and across the sea.

2. This garden is depicted on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map of Pembrokeshire XXXV, sheet 15 (1907). Its main elements on that map include monument, terrace, relict hedgelines, possible viewing platform, walled garden, pond, lodge, isolated geometric copses, carriage drive and woodland.
