Description
1. Estate created on a virgin site c.1900 for Alderman Ralli, J.P. 'regardless of cost'. The garden consists of good trees which are mostly of c.1898. Entrance through gateposts in dressed Gwespyr stone with rebated courses of Ruabon brick and limestone. The Drive leads through the woodland to a turning circle by the house. There is a rockery/shrine of waterworn limestone with statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Tennis courts, edged with concrete balustrade (much of it missing). Hexagonal gazebo of Ruabon brick with floor of 'Minton' type tiles by J.C.Edwards of Ruabon. To the North of stable block a beech avenue flanks the back drive which leads to a lodge. Large walled garden of 2 acres (in separate ownership) is now grazed. The North East and South walls each have traces of 40yd long glasshouses. The East side of the East wall also has a long range of garden buildings in trimmed rubble, including a boiler house and estate smithy. The South West has a blocked gateway with 'house style' posts and outdoor privy hidden behind curved stone walls. Beyond the North wall of Ruabon brick is a tree covered limestone bluff with paths up to croquet lawn. Large ornamental pool. To the East of the walled garden is a low-walled terrace garden sheltered by beeches.
