GWENT 20 Bryn Glas is a rare urban survival within Newport of a late nineteenth-century large (8.4 hectares - 21 acre) garden with ornamental tree and shrub planting. It includes both formal and informal garden, `pleasure grounds' and the remains of a walled kitchen garden. It preserves remarkable exotic shrubs and trees.

2. This garden is depicted on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map of Monmouthshire XVIII, sheet 10 (1901). Its main elements on that map include terrace, kitchen garden, sundial, orchard, greenhouse, conservatory and a carriage drive.
