Description
OAN field survey, located by GPS to an accuracy of +/- 1m. South end is SJ2509344419, North end is SJ2509344487. Site of the old Hafod farmhouse used before Hafod Farm was built at turn of C20th. The farm building was built in several phases. There was a three celled two storey farmhouse that now survives partially to full height but no roof. The middle cell is earliest with west cell possibly contemporary as a barn/shed. The east cell is an extension built slightly more evenly in straighter courses. The eastern gable end shows that the east extension has been extended higher than the sloping second floor roof level. General build of the farmhouse is sub-angular square limestone blocks with round corners. The blocks become smaller towards the roof and are in better courses than lower down. Walls are double thickness. Internally the wall between the central cell and the east extension is solid, the internal wall between central and west cell is at chest height, it is possible that the central cell was used as a byre at ground level along with the west cell as there are no windows at ground level. There are a doors on each cell on the south elevation and one wide door in the central cell on the north elevation. The east extension was used as a house and has blocked up windows on ground and first floors in the east gable end. There is a blocked window on the ground floor in the north elevation and an open first floor window. The north elevation also has a large buttress on the west cell, approximately 2m wide by 2.5m high. 2002/06/13/OAN/PJS
