Description
OAN field survey, located by GPS to an accuracy of +/- 1m. Large loose spoil heap and large mine shaft with upcast mound and smaller spoilheaps dotted around the immediate area. The current OS mapping shows a spoil heap, some shafts and possibly a settling tank. On the ground there are piles of stone and debris scattered around. The shaft itself now has a concrete capping and to the north are the remains of a building platform not shown on the map. The building only survives as a low stone wall masked by demolition debris. To the north of this is the large spoil heap, this also has a concrete capped shaft on it. Around the general area of site are many smaller shafts dotted around. To the east of the building platform there is the large rectangular tank which is presumably a buddle or settling tank of some kind. 2002/10/08/OAN/NW
