Description
The bows of the vessel are intact and point seawards (south). The deck is completely missing (as a result of salvage efforts). The hull plating has collapsed outwards. In the centre of the wreck, the ship's tall Scotch boiler remains insitu. A steam valve has been recovered and reported to the Receiver of Wreck.

Event and Historical Information:
The GLENOCUM was an iron-hulled steamship built by J Grendon & Company, Drogheda, in 1875. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 344gt, 244nt; 146ft 5in length x 22ft 4in breadth x 11ft 7in depth; 3 masts (according to some sources); screw propulsion powered by a single boiler linked to a compound engine producing 75hp; machinery by J Taylor & Co, Birkenhead. At time of loss on 23 May 1883, the vessel was owned by W E M Tomlinson of London and registered at that port. The vessel was under the command of master J Sims and carrying a cargo of steel crop ends (or railway rails/bars - sources differ) from Newport to Liverpool. At 6am on the 23rd, the steamer ran ashore (or was deliberately beached after hitting a rock - sources differ). By 28 May 1883, the Liverpool Salvage Association had refloated the ship. However, it had to be re-beached so that the cargo could be removed and repairs undertaken. By 20 September, 246 tons of cargo had been removed, but work on saving the ship was abandoned. The wreck was later sold for £70.
