Event and Historical Information:
The MARION was a wooden schooner built at Birth-y-Gest shipyard, Porthmadog, by Robert Own in 1853. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 67tons; 61ft 1in x 17ft breadth x 9ft 5in depth. The original master was William Roberts. In 1871, Lloyd's Register gives the schooners owners as Owen and Co, with William Owen as master. At time of loss on 29 September 1885, the vessel was owned by William Roberts and Co, with William Roberts as master. The schooner was carrying a cargo of limestone from Clare to Criccieth when was caught in a southerly force 9 gale and blown onshore on 29 September 1885.
