Description
This record comprises a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location ABERDARON pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned.

Event and Historical Information:
The MININGU was a wooden barque built by Charland at Quebec in 1864. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 967gt, 924nt; 166ft 1in length x 34ft 9in breadth x 22ft 4in depth; passenger deck 42ft, forecastle 28ft; sheathed in yellow metal, fastened with iron bolts. At time of loss 23 January 1884, the vessel was owned by J McDonnell of Limerick and registered at that port. Under the command of master D Wright, it was carrying coal from Cardiff to Rio de Janiero. It was caught in a northwesterly force 9 gale and blown ashore in Aberdaron Bay.
