Event and Historical Information:
The CAERHUN was a wooden smack (or cutter - sources differ) built in 1819 at Caerhun, Caernarvonshire. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 19.93gt; 39.3ft length x 13.85ft breadth x 6.83ft depth in hold; 1 deck, 1 mast; rigging smack; stern square; build carvel; framework wood; official number 16401. At time of loss on 7 October 1889, the vessel was owned by Griffith Davies of Llanegan, Caernarfon (also the master). The smack was caught at moorings at Port Ysgaden by a west-northwesterly force 11 gale, broke free and stranded ashore (at Porthecadau according to Caernarvon Shipping Register Entry, 3 in 1876) .
