Description
The remains of a large sailing vessel, believed to be the NYDIA, lying with its keel orientated 140/230 degrees (bow to the northwest). The wreck is almost completely buried in sand and has length of 43m and breadth of 11.5m. The hull is sheathed in copper. The highest part of the wreck is the deck-house which stands some 4.1m above the general level of the seabed. Some damage, caused by trawling, had also been reported by sports divers.

Event and Historical Information:
The NYDIA was a wooden barque built by Valin at Quebec in 1863. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 834nt, 163ft length x 33ft 8in breadth x 22ft 3in depth; partially fastened with iron bolts; sheathed in felt and yellow metal. At time of loss on 18 November 1877, the vessel was owned by J P Evans and under the command of H T Gwyther. The barque was on passage from Liverpool to Tyree and Savannah when it was in collision with the steamship ALBANIAN and foundered 8 miles off the Great Orme.
