This record comprises a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location HELL?S MOUTH pending more information which June allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned.

Event and Historical Information:
The NYMPH was a wooden schooner originally built by Oliver Chapman at Chepstow in 1841. The vessel had previously foundered in a gale in October 1844 whilst on passage from Chepstow to Lynn with coal, but had been raised, sold, then repaired with her length increased. Technical and configuration specifications (according to the vessel's registry at time of loss) are given as 104gt, 99nt; 64ft 5in length x 18ft 1in breadth x 11ft 8in depth; 2 masts; female bust figurehead. The vessel was owned by J Hughes of Amlwch and registered at Limerick. The schooner had been carrying coal from Llanelli to Newry under the command of William Miller. The NYMPH was caught in an east-northeasterly force 9 gale and was abandoned to founder in Porth Neigwl/Hell's Mouth Bay on 31 October 1880.
