Event and Historical Information:
The ENDEAVOUR was a wooden smack built and completed at Porthmadoc in 1845. Technical and configuratiion specifications are given as 45.62gt; 50.4ft length x 16.7ft breadth x 9ft depth in hold; 1 mast; rigging smack; stern square; build carvel; framework wood; official number 13073. At time of loss on 8 December 1886, the vessel was owned by Hugh Jones of Porthmadoc, blockmaker. Previous owners at Porthmadoc include John Henry Williams and his family (wife Margery and sons Owen and Robert), ironfounders and timber merchants. The smack was carrying roofing slate from Porthmadog to Newport when it was caught in a westerly force 10-11 gale and blown ashore on Pwllheli beach.
