Event and Historical Information:
The MONTANA was an iron-hulled steamship built by Palmer Shipbuilding Co, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in 1873. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 4321gt, 2429nt; 400ft 7in length x 43ft 7in breadth x 32ft 7in depth; screw propulsion powered by 3 steam boilers linked to a compound engine. The vessel was the sister ship to the DAKOTA (see NPRN 271861) and was owned by the Liverpool & Great Western Steam Navigation Company. The ship ran aground on the north coast of Anglesey on 14 March 1880.
