This record comprises a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location OFF HOLYHEAD pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned.

Event and Historical Information:
The EMERALD ISLE was enroute from London to Liverpool on 30 October 1853, when it was in collision with a brig at night off Holyhead. The EMERALD ISLE subsequently foundered. The crew managed to save themselves in their own boat.
