This record consists of a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location CAMAES BAY pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be determined.
Event and Historical Information:
The ATLAS is recorded as a 85nt schooner built in 1840 at Wexford and belonging to that port. At time of loss it was owned by Whitty & Co of Wexford. The vessel was on passage from Dublin to Barrow-in-Furness under the command of master L Shiel when went it stranded 'on rocks at Kemmaes Bay' on 9 July 1854.
