Archaeological remains associated with the loss of this vessel are considered to be those of UKHO 7345 (NPRN 506749).
Event and Historical Information:
The LA ROCHELLE was a iron-hulled steamship built by Palmers' Ship Building Co Ltd. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 250ft length x 37ft breadth x 17ft depth. At time of loss 19 June 1910, the vessel was owned by A D'Orbigny, Faustin & Co and registered at La Rochelle in France. The ship was carrying iron ore from Povene, Spain to Workington. The vessel was in collision with the Newry registered steamship YEWS (see NPRN 272245) steamship 8 miles or 10 miles (sources differ) northwest of the Skerries. The ship sank with all hands.
