This record comprises a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location OFF HOLYHEAD pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned.

Event and Historical Information:
The ROMAN was a wooden sailing vessel pn passage from Savannah to Liverpool. The vessel was in collision with the RICHARD ANDERSON (master Bennett on passage from new Orleans to Liverpool) off Holyhead. During the collision the RICHARD ANDERSON lost its job-boom, head, etc, but the ROMAN subsequently foundered two hours later. The crew of the ROMAN were taken on board the RICHARD ANDERSON and brought into Liverpool. The ROMAN's captain, Salisbury, died on board before the RICHARD ANDERSON reached port.
