Description
Archaeological remains associated with the loss of this vessel are not confirmed as present at this location, but may be in the vicinity.

Event and Historical Information:
The CHARLOTTE was a 109nt wooden schooner built in 1839. At time of loss on 23 February 1879, the vessel was owned by R Owens of Holyhead. The schooner was carrying 109tons of roofing slate from Bangor to London under the command of master W Sutherland. The schooner developed a leak some 20 miles southwest by west of the Cardigan Bay lightship in squally conditions (northerly force 6). The crew abandoned ship and, some 30 minutes later, the schooner was seen to go down.
