Event and Historical Information:
The TANTALLON CASTLE was a steam-driven trawler built in 1897 for the J A Smith Steam Trawling Company Ltd, Hull, by Hawthorns & Co Ltd, Leith. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 184gt; 54nt; 112ft 5in length x 21ft 1in breadth x 11ft 1in height; screw propulsion 3cylinder triple expansion engine powered by a single boiler producing 37 horsepower. At time of loss the trawler was owned by W Jenkins, Milford Haven. It was lost on 11 January 1908, 12 miles off the Smalls, whilst under the command of master C Fears.
