Event and Historical Information:
The PET was built as a wooden schooner in 1856 at Pugwash, Nova Scotia, for merchant Levi W Eaton. Technical specification are given as 43gt; 57ft length x 16ft breadth x 8ft depth; 1 deck, 2 masts. The schooner's registry was transferred to Padstow in 1857 and the vessel was lengthened and re-rigged as a ketch in 1878 (59nt; 75ft 3in length x 18ft 1in breadth x 8ft 1in depth). At time of loss on 19 September 1911, the PET was owned by the Martin brothers of Wadebridge. It was carrying coal from Runcorn to Padstow under the command of master Juliff when it foundered 3 mile west-half-north of Strumble Head.
