This record comprises a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location OFF THE SMALLS pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned.
Event and Historical Information:
The JOHN AND CATHERINE was a wooden sailing vessel. On 15 February 1819 the vessel was on passage from Teignmouth to Glasgow when it foundered off the Smalls in heavy weather. Its crew were rescued and taken to Dumfries.
