Description
This record comprises a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location GOODWICK SANDS pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned.

Event and Historical Information:
The XANTHUS was a wooden brigantine built by Henry Fellowes at Great Yarmouth in 1860 (yard number 88). Technical and configuration specifications are given as 124gt/nt; 88ft length x 20ft breadth x 11ft 1in depth; copper fastened; official number 29327. At time of loss on 6 December 1882, the vessel was owned by H Morgan of Aberdyfi and registered at Aberystwyth. Under the command of master D Morgan it was carrying roofing slate from Bangor to Harburg, River Elbe. The brigantine was driven ashore whilst sheltering in Fishguard Roads by a north-easterly force 9 gale.
