Description

This record comprises a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location THE SMALLS pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned.

Event and Historical Information:
The IDA was a wooden brigantine built by Jones at Porthmadioc in 1877. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 179nt; 103ft 5in length x 24ft 2in breadth x 13ft 4in depth; offical number 77416. At time of loss on 8 August 1890, the vessel was owned by H Williams of Porthmadoe (also the master). The IDA was carrying phosphate from Ghent to Liverpool when it ran onto the Smalls and became stranded.
