Event and Historical Information:
The ALICE WILLIAMS was a wooden schooner built by Bevans, Llanelli, in 1854. Technical specifications are given as 132gt, 100nt; 83ft 3in long x 22ft 9in breadth x 11ft 8in depth; official number 22780. The schooner was owned at time of loss by T W Crouch, Falmouth, and registered at Falmouth. The schooner was carrying a cargo of coal from Runcorn to Padstow when it developed a leak off Milford Haven. The schooner was abandoned by her crew and drifted onto Stokholm Island on 24 February 1928. A local farmer bought the wreck for £5 and salvaged the cargo. The figurehead was amongst the items recovered. The figurehead which once stood in the open, has been restored by the National Museum of Wales now stands within a hut on the island. More recently coal, copper sheaving and pottery have been recovered.
