Event and Historical Information:
The MARY was a wooden sailing vessel belonging to the port of Newport. At time of loss on 1 January 1826, it was carrying a cargo of iron ingots loaded at its home port. The report printed in Lloyds List noted that the vessel was on the rocks on 'Sencholm' Island and likely to be lost if the southwesterly gale continued. The crew had been saved.
