Description

Originally a public house occupied this important burgage plot in the principal street of the town however, this was demolished and in the early twentieth century, it was replaced by a Temperance House built in the Arts and Craft Style. It has a projecting modern shop front to the ground floor and is now a shop.

It is a two-and-a-half storey building with rendered elevation and a steeply-pitched tiled roof with a tall brick end chimney to the left with moulded capping. The ground-floor shop section is advanced onto the street line and is entirely modern. The recessed main section has a symmetrical facade with an advanced wide central bay terminating in an attic gable. The first floor has a large 8-light wooden mullioned and transomed window with small-pane glazing. The gable has a 4-light mullioned window with moulded label and sill, decorative plaster panel below and a simple plaster moulding to the gable apex.

It is listed for its special interest as a well-detailed early twentieth century building in a prominent location, occupying an important burgage plot in the principal street of the town.
