Event and Historical Information:
The AVOLA was a wooden brigantine, built by T A Mosher in 1892. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 497gt, 450nt; 149ft length x 36ft breadth x 13ft 5in depth; 1 deck; felt and yellow metal over iron bolt. At time of loss the AVOLA was registered in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and owned by T A Masters and company, Hantsport. On 7 November 1899 the brigantine was carrying coal from Newport to Para, Brazil, under the command of master M H Martin. It stranded on Pendine Sands in a southwesterly force 10 gale.
