Event and Historical Information:
The ADELAIDE was a 73nt wooden schooner built in 1834. At time of loss, the vessel was owned by J D Byerley, Landport, Hampshire. The schooner was under the command of master H King and had loaded a cargo of coal for Portsmouth when it was in collision with the French registered steamship JOHANNA on 10 April 1878. The schooner subsequently foundered off the Bute Jetty.
