Event and Historical Information:
The FLEETWING was a wooden Dandy, built in 1869 by shipbuilders Francis of New Quay, Cardiganshire. It was registered in Aberystwyth. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 31 nt; 57ft 4in length x 16ft 8in breadth x 7ft 2in depth; official number 62797. At the time of loss, 22 December 1898, the vessel was sailing from Swansea to New Quay under the command of it's master and owner H. Davies. FLEETWING foundered in a southwesterly force 7 gale, near Helwick Sands.
