Event and Historical Information:
The WILLIAM MILES was a wooden barque built in 1816. At time of loss, the vessel was owned by G Robinson of Littlehampton and was enroute from Le Harve to Swansea under the command of J Laughlan. The barque stranded on Porthcawl Sands on 9 August 1883. The Porthcawl lifeboat CHAFYN GROVE made two trips. On the first taking off the master's wife and one man, and on the second taking off the remaining crew.
