Event and Historical Information:
The PENSIERO was a 385ton wooden brigantine built in 1883 and registered at Genoa. At time of loss on 8 January 1878, the vessel was owned by R Demarchi and under the command of master F Ferro carrying coal from Cardiff to Constantinople. The brigantine was in collision with the Cork registered steamship XEMA in an east-northeasterly force 6. The PENSIERO subsequently foundered 7 miles east of the Smalls lighthouse with the loss of all 10 crewmembers onboard.
