Event and Historical Information:
The MARY was a 86nt wooden schooner registered at the port of Preston. At time of loss, the vessel was owned by D Murray, who was also the master. The schooner was carrying a cargo of coal and coke from Newport to Cork on 4 November 1884. It was in collision with the Newport registered steamship CAERAU and subsequently foundered 1.5 miles northeast of the Monkstone beacon.
