DescriptionThis rough pillar stone is sixth century in date, and was removed from the ruined fabric of St Michael's Church, Llandre-Egremont(Llandissilo East) (NPRN 310025) to present location within St Tyssilio's church (Llandissilio West) (NPRN 308656) around 1964.The stone was first recorded in St Michael's churchyard in 1745, and was built into the wall of St Michael's Church by 1889.
The stone, a Scheduled Ancient Monument, measures some 1.23m in height x 0.28-0.4m in width. Its Latin inscription reads'CARANTACUS', and it is also inscribed with a secondary linear Latin cross. The stone is now set into the floor at the east end of the nave of St Tysilio's Church.
