Excavations, in 1939 (Fox 1940), over an area roughly 145m NNE-SSW by 50m, examined 5/6 pairs of barracks in the praetentura; a stretch of the north-eastern fortress wall was also recorded: earlier work to the east (Hawkes 1930) examined the eastern angle of the fortress in addition to parts of two of the barracks explored in 1939.
