DescriptionCropmarks of a ploughed-down rectangular enclosure, about 42m east-west by 30m overall, were first identified from aerial photography in 1971. They are set upon a low eminence on generally level ground close to the River Wye with an entrance gap on the western side. The site has been identified as a Roman fortlet protecting the river crossing of the Roman road from Castell Collen to Caerau. A surface search within the ramparts produced a small finds assemblage, including 1st century AD Samian sherds.
