Description
An extensive stone embanked field system, which is situated in a field to the south of a Romano-British homestead (NMR 303067). It consists of earth and stone banks and runs downslope between two homestead (NMR 303067, NMR 303066) along a north-west to south-east alignment. In the east, it leads up to an enclosure (NMR 303080), into the field lying to the south and is part of the field system associated with the nearby hut circle settlement (NMR 303068). The banks are up to 2m wide in places by 0.6m high. Within the field, there are five tightly-packed, stone clearance cairns measuring approximately 6m long, 2m wide, and up to 1m high, which is probably modern clearance. The field system is definitely associated with the homestead (NMR 303067) as this has field banks running in the same alignment over the other side of the Roman road. 2004.03.18/OAN/PJS
