Description
Probable line of Roman road crossing Pen Bwlch Llandrillo from the ESE and heading in the general direction of Cynwyd. The farm name 'Rhydyglafes' , 1km SSW of Cynwyd may suggest a possible crossing point of the River Dee. It generally shows as an earthwork terrace of 4m to 5m in width. The most likely line taken diverges from the modern roadway at SJ 09023664 and runs NW, before curving to the N and crossing a broad spur. There is a well-preserved section at the NGR given, but as it nears Nant Gwyn, the course becomes braided and disturbed. No evidence could be found in the improved field containing Nant Gwyn, but the road re-appears on leaving the field at SJ 07643784, where it runs NW to meet the modern road to Rhydyglafes.
