Description
A group of 8-9 small buildings that skirt the edge of, and are partially overlain by, a spoil heap from the Alexandra slate quarry (NPRN 40528). They are well built with double thickness walls that are c.0.50m wide and c.1.5m high. They are c.4m long by 3m wide and there is evidence of roofing present in the form of scattered corrugated asbestos fragments. Several are situated on the spoil heap but these could not be visited safely. The shelters are probably associated with secondary slate working of the spoil heaps by unemployed quarrymen. P.J.
