Description
Cefncaled Farmhouse is externally a C19th brick-built farmhouse with kitchen wing. The main range incorporates the greater part of a cruck-framed hall-house, probably of 'peasant' type with a single-bayed hall. There are two principal phases:
1. 1500-50. A cruck-framed hallhouse with inner-rooms - single-bay hall - passage; the outer room has been lost. The house is notable for its superior detail, including large-well-formed crucks, a dais canopy' and a door-door post-and-panel partition with Tudor doorhead. In a second phase c. 1600 a chimney was inserted at the lower end of the hall; the passage converted to an outer parlour; the outer bay has been lost. There is an adjacent, much-altered three-bay timber-framed barn. Visited Nov. 2013. RF Suggett & Ross Cooke, RCAHMW.
